actualized reality fades
fragmented democracy crumbles into
a sea of melancholy
as apathetic hipsters
too smart to vote
grumble as the nation which birthed them
falls apart –
election day blues fills coffee shops
as nonregistered corporation ******
pump dollars into the beast
stimulating the wealth gap
and their collective colons –
**** stained Senate seat swings
back and forth
while the wearer flounders
on simple issues
surrounding individual rights
fighting in tights for the
“right is might” crowd
unfounded fact sheets hold
future carnage
at least for the poor and illiterate –
national pride died
tuesday symbolizing tyranny
as zombie Americans use their
manifest destiny to choose
Coke or Pepsi,
Taco Bell or McDonalds,
Democrat or Republican,
FOX or CNN
It begins again… --
hopeless and angry
my uncounted vote
lines the floorboard
of some fancy car driven by a 1%-er
but by casting
taking the moment to voice mine
I allow myself the entitlement
to *****
**** and moan
complain
and scream at the top of my lungs
about whatever
the **** I want –
even though our votes do not count for ****, it is important to participate :)

i see a fire in the sky above the pines
on the side of the house
this early morning

and on the front
the water is burning -
burning

i used to go to work in the dark
before the time changed - affirming
and conforming

the radio man recites last night's results -
a new day has dawned
- it will be long and disconcerting

there is a fire in the sky above the pines -
and on the front
the water is burning

- burning.

your boot was turned the wrong way
on the post out by the highway
- sharp toe pointing to the south
away from where you've been

you're no stranger to the rangers
living dangerously on the edge
- sidewinders in the sagebrush
whispering to the wind

the anasazi built this home
stacking stone one by one
- far above the canyon
of petroglyphs and wrens

i knew i'd find you by the fire
talking to the ghosts of smoke and drum
- in the ruins above the dunes
reminiscing with your friends

- reminiscing, reminiscing
on the blue mesa.

time -
such care in counting
the essence of

measured twice
- cut once
if wisely

a hole in a rock -
an atomic clock
ticking tocks

aligned in space
light years and dog years
- lines on a face

a living will -
a fleeting baby's smell

- shadows weighed
at the end of the day

darkening sky
drawing nigh -
palms high

- it is time.

lonely moths -
black and white
and in-betweens

navigating
by the same light

  spiraling -
adapting
- changing

traits
moth-ers know

no need to race
- we are one.

a learning experience
- the detailed
timing and precision

- a certain etiquette
in the rise and fall
of hands and feet

i learned the walk
- mirrored on the toe
of a spit-shined boot

shooting imaginary doves
in white gloves -

the proper fold
of the cloth
- tight and taught
with stars above

the tri-fold - not
a trifling thing we're told

the color of a mother's tears
and grip of a father's grief -
the why in the cry of a child

- sad song of the bugler
on a windswept hill
standing in the detail.

There is nothing between us anymore
Not even those three yards of cold linoleum
As we walked on opposite sides of the hall
The distance has dispersed and now our silence exists there alone
Not even mused by a dream of further endeavors
There is a dead end plopped betwixt us
I cannot raise my glare to meet yours because I know
Somewhere, deep in my heart
There is nothing there for me anymore

we are losing in a gulag
of our choosing

the un-predict-
ability of liberty

an extraordinarily poor
rendition of a system

where oaken-ed cloaked
murderous crows caw foul

jumping at every
shadow of a shadow of

a shadow nears to turn to turn
to turn the clock back years

election day is tuesday
- rue the day sweet liberty.

snow comes early this year
in southern climes

- records broken

radio man talks
of a warming globe

- a broken record

seas have risen
many, many times
and frozen, too

- in southern climes

have I shown you
my wooly mammoth tooth?

it's very old.

It will not be enough, it will never be enough.
Like that first time ******* high
We seek again, and again, and again.

Each day we die a little
We crave, we rage, we cannot disengage.

This febrile fever betrays our terminal condition.
The world has caught something
For which there is no cure.
Inspired by 'Sick to Death' by Sjr1000.
