You stood at the front of the church
I walked to you and looked in your eyes
Vowing to a life of no pain or hurt
Vowing to a life of love and peace
Until death parts us let us be
in love and happy, eternally
the man i've written about since 2020 is now my man forever, wild

your son was 9, you were forty-two
your wife was nearing forty

I was eighteen
daughter 1, fourteen; daughter 2, thirteen
and daughter 3 was only 6

we've experienced anniversaries,
birthdays, funerals
(my dad, my grandpa, my papa)

breakups, and new boyfriends
(just with your daughters, really)

graduations, retirements,
family arguments
chaos and heartbreak induced by alcoholism,
(and now years of sobriety)

first home purchases
(your daughters and myself)
(your son is living with me this summer)

and a pandemic...

much has happened since June 17th, two thousand and sixteen
but the biggest thing yet
will be this Saturday
June 7th, twenty twenty-five

daughter 1 is twenty-two, now
and in three days she gets married
your son is eighteen, now
and he will walk her down the aisle
(he told me he cries whenever he thinks about it)

your wife is nearly forty-nine
she will be there with her boyfriend
(they moved in together, in the house they built)
(they're both sober)
(she referred to him as her husband the other day)

daughter 3 is fifteen
(she told me she doesn't really remember you)

I am twenty-seven, now
and I will read a passage from the Bible at your daughter's wedding -
(just like I did at your funeral)
My cousin gets married this weekend... feeling very bitter-sweet; her dad died by suicide 9 years ago (anniversary of the death is in two weeks); my dad died unexpectedly three years ago. Reflecting on how life changes, and it also stays the same. My cousin asked me to read a passage at her wedding; 9 years ago, my aunt asked me to read a passage at my uncle's funeral.

our wedding day, i said
when problems suddenly weight multiple folds
he laughed, agreed
thanks for bearing with me through it
they say i will cry blood
that’s relative, but i surely got his warm hugs

that christmas in whistler
you led me towards something
glorious

i met new people
we shared stories
and i stood by the mountain
while skiers came towards me

gracefully

like a dance upon the snow
synchronized
your presence was everywhere

i could finally see
as your beautiful crystals
showered me

your sun still came to shine
and the star upon the trees aligned
and when it was time to get in line
i saw others just like me

alone at christmas time

oh Yahweh
oh Yahweh
almighty one

how pleasing to know
you chose me
for your son
Many people spend Christmas alone, it's a thing that holds some kind of taboo. Many of those people don't talk about it, and likely that's because they really don't want the pity or the judgment.

strings from heaven
a revelation song
praising the lord of lords
who conquered babylon

his word is his bond
he returns for the ones
who overcame and repented
his kingdom has won

the wedding shall begin
i am part of the win
with my finest white linen
prepared to meet the king

his love is sacrificial
righteous
and sweet

his kingdom is like no other
a peaceful joy
time to greet
Ever read the book of Revelation? What is your perspective? Here is mine in a dose of poetry.

Pretty pretty,
Why so pretty?
Did I confuse pretty?
Be yourself pretty.

I’ve
been standing for way too long
My legs
wobble and itch
For me
to move

My next
word shall tell a story
Of how
much I’ve faked
Of how
much I’ve pruned

My
father stands aside the altar
My
Husband in touch
Crying
tears of joy

How he’s
wanted me to be “normal”
I raise
my chin as I walk forward
I wonder
if my husband knows

The white
lacy dress dragging on the floor
The
white roses hiding
Their
thorns under my clasped hands

I look
to my right and there she stands
My lover
and bridesmaid
Watching
as I get married to another
Tell me your thoughts and have a good day :)
If we swear on sunshine,
And the silver of the moon.
We can be wed in this very room,
I will claim you as mine,
We will be as one divine.
If you swear to me and I swear to you,
We can await the alter soon.
I found the one I am sure of it
Not a beat is skipped
Or a doubt held within
These hearts are open
Our words are true
We hold no worries
Because we have each other
We fret at nothing
Because we know we will get through

A friend told me your news,

They showed me a picture of your gown,

                                   ...

You married him, wearing the necklace I gave you.
