I’m stuck in the cage
Of an insecure spouse,
Waiting for him to unlock
It to set me free.
His superior mind keeps
Me from the escape.

As he’s celebrating the display
In his delicate cage,
Here I am while the light
Shines on me.

With no way out, I see
Everyone with joyous smiles,
Dancing their dances.
As I try to escape to freedom,
The arrows of his harsh words
Come bashing against my will.
As I pray to get out,
The lock tightens with
Every thought.

On a cold November evening, she met herself
Her reflection was shivering; confident,
Her lips cold; her smile warm
On a cold November evening, she saw herself

Her eyes sparkled with humor in time with the gentle dance of the snow,
Each snowflake a waltz reflecting her mood
And she asked herself, how did you get here, me?
How did you escape your cage?

And she answered, oh darling, I never did.
The cage simply outgrew me, and the iron bars scraped my arms
I hurt myself no longer, but I still hurt
And yet it was all worth it, to see that look in your eyes

On a cold November evening, she walked away
Those iron bars so far from her hopeful face -
A cage so big she didn’t understand how she could ever leave
And yet the phantom pain on her arms was a promise
That this wasn’t forever.

...
if i were to speak out
in a freak out
and let loose
amplifying my truth
most would label it rage
would vote that i continue to keep it in it's cage
no one cares enough to see that it's pain
because then they'd have to study every molecule of rain
and take some accountability for every stain
and so far i've never been worth that
so i lay down my defense in combat
you get the win
apparently life is so broken
that love and devotion
isn't enough to consider a win
in order for me to be wanted
i must accept their sin
but untill i reach perfection
no one finds me enough to put any effort in
so what i'm working towards
is impossible for me to personally imagine
my dream is now a has been
must be flipped upside down to see my grin
someone please say when
if somehow i missed it,
please say it again

Instead of lying on the couch for another hour,
I could have done more.
"‘You are turning into a cocoon,’
they laugh.

I could, I should,
but I never would.
I know myself too well.

I would rather offer my soul for sale
than leave my room—
four walls that have become my
safe haven... or a cage?

I know I should,
but I never will.
Am I too emotional for allowing myself to fear?

Because what if, when I leave,
my home disappears?
What if they forget
that I was once there?
What if they realize
that living without me
makes them happier?
What if I will dissapear?

The silence is deafening.
How many days has it been?

I can almost make out the faint calls,
Of someone in the distance.

But just as quickly as they appear,
They vanish without a trace.

So, I sit against the wall,
Hugging my knees to my chest.

Scratches on the rough concrete behind me
Marking the depth of my agony

How long will I rot in this cage,
Before someone notices that I am missing?

I wake to walls I did not build,
A space too small, a name too still.
They call me by a voice not mine,
A shape I wear, but never will.

The world beyond hums soft and bright,
A distant place I’ve yet to claim.
I trace its edges in my mind—
A whispered truth without a name.

The mirror shifts, the cracks run deep,
Yet in them, something starts to grow.
Not wings, not fins, but something else—
A self I’ve always seemed to know.

So let the door be rusted shut,
Let silence press against my skin.
I’ll carve a window with my hands—
And let the light come pouring in.
This Poem is about being trans and stuffs. I took some inspiration from the song Rule #4 - Fish in a Birdcage by Fish in a Birdcage.
Don't cage me,
Don't chain me,
Don't try and change me,
I am the river,
I am free.

So you can't control me,
You can know me,
But you'll never own me.
Freedom is a human instinct, how come people think they can go without it.
