KNOWING EVERYTHING AND NOTHING

"How much does
my shadow weigh?"
I have to think about this

"As much..." I answer
"as the thought that
thought it!"

she scratches her head
displaces a butterfly bow
perched upon her curls

"Is that heavy?" she asks
"Heavy!" I say
"I say it is!"

"See!" she scolds her dolls
"I told you he'd know
he knows everything!"

the dolls stare at me
incredulously
I pray they don't give me away
