the three dead mice lay stuck in their sticky trap
at the end of the kitchen island
where food was being prepared

"this will never do",  she said out-loud to herself
confused for some moments,
she moved the trap near the toaster on the counter
where the utensils sat, unput-away in their drawer

she continued to chop the food before cooking it;
it was thrown out weeks later, uneaten.

Woman, thy nastiness to me
Is like old Nikes on the floor
Where sweat and mildew disagree
And force me to the nearest door
A stench I can't ignore.

Your heart weighs less than styrofoam,
Thy stinking feet, thy scowling face,
Belong in some state nursing home . . .
Free me up some breathing space,
You mean-hair clipped-face gnome.

Lo, in yon dark recliner-chair
How meatloaf-like I see thee slump,
Upon your wide immobile ****,
Ah! Harpie of the greasy hair
Unholy Frump!
PROMPT #3

Find a poem that you like, and rewrite each line, replacing each word (or as many words as you can) with words that mean the opposite.

To Helen (E.A. Poe)
Helen, thy beauty is to me
Like those Nicean barks of yore
That gently, o’er a perfumed sea,
The weary, way-worn wanderer bore
To his own native shore.
On desperate seas long wont to roam,
Thy hyacinth hair, thy classic face,
Thy Naiad airs have brought me home
To the glory that was Greece,
And the grandeur that was Rome.
Lo, in yon brilliant window-niche
How statue-like I see thee stand,
The agate lamp within thy hand,
Ah! Psyche, from the regions which
Are Holy Land!

wasted words
wasted lives
stuck in time
never moving on
as it moves on

the same soundtrack
plays and replays
decades haven't changed that

alone for so many reasons
and wasted, completely wasted

if it were up to nathan wade jackson
of toronto, ontario canada,
trudeau would be god
and everyone would wear masks forever
hard times
baby well they come to us all
sure as the tickin' as the clock on the wall
sure as the turnin' of the night into day

the parking used to be free
but now everyone has to pay
and pay and pay
ain't it just like that
and ain't it just like diversity

it was a sunny day
the guy selling mushrooms seemed very knowledgeable about his impressive variety of mushrooms, the kind you couldn't find in most supermarkets

the 79 year old man
with congestive heart failure
who had spent his life loving the Lord
and doing right by his family and fellow man
bought a $4 head of cauliflower and three ears of corn
at a dollar a husk

the cauliflower had brown spots on it
the corn husks were dried out and had brown and black spots on them
his daughter said he probably shouldn't buy them, they didn't look fresh

the lady from the third world country put in a bag for him and accepted his money after assuring him it was fresh

cherries were selling for $7 a pound

the man selling mushrooms had a nice variety and knew a lot about mushrooms

there was another stall
the crafts were probably made in chinese factory

the 79 year old man was enjoying the sunny day
as he stood in line to buy a latte for his sick wife
who he took care of

the coffee truck swayed back and forth
as the two young ladies of size
took orders, accepted cash
and made the drinks

the twelve ounce latte was $7
they also had an assortment of blended non-coffee choices
between $7 and $15 dollars

he gave them the $7 and stood with the rest of people
waiting for their $20 drinks to be made
as the coffee truck kept on swaying back and forth

the corn and cauliflower could have been purchased
at a discount grocer that sold old produce
but the third world women working the stall were from the third world country so no one questioned anything

as they happily waited in line after line for $50 cups of coffee
holding their brownly spotted and packed produce

a lower income family walked up the coffee truck and spent $100 on drinks for 4 people

when the 79 year old man with congestive heart failure who saw the best in everyone
and had spent his life doing right by the Lord, his family, and his fellow man returned home, he gave the $7 latte to his sickly, invalid wife.
his daughter shucked the brownly spotted and packed corn
the corn was dried out on the inside.

it was a sunny day.

scarlet's president is still keeping the same kind of company
they come in darker colors, they come in shades of ******

scarlet's president was a good friend to the klu klux ****
back in the day
every time he loses control of his bowels, scarlet just looks the other way

scarlet's president looks more and more like a ******* every day
and scarlet thinks that it's all ok
