The Cup

i wrote out my dreams with a pen
and placed them in a cup
i looked into the stars and then
with pride i held it up

i toasted to the moon above
and branches of the trees
i then said my goodbye to love
and threw them in the breeze

and maybe, maybe there's a day
when one might pass you by
but dream, only a dream can stay
only in dreams we fly

when the world ended,
i fell to the floor,
tears rolling down,
the future tore.

heart in my throat,
my jaw felt weak,
you held me tight,
you kissed my cheek.

when the world ended,
your hand on mine,
softly caress,
fingers entwined.

no whispered words,
you let me be,
your quiet strength,
meant the world to me.

And on that day, when the world ended,
you held my hand,
you stayed with me,
you made me see,
my world could be...
mended...
again...
someday.

I never realized how terrible it was
to pry a hook from a gasping fish’s mouth
because I always had Dad to do the tough parts.

I always had Dad to get his hands ***** so my line could be cast back out into the lake of life with me on the other end of the pole anxiously waiting for my next big catch.

That’s what dads are for.

I never knew what it was like to struggle
putting on a too sticky band-aid.
I always had Dad to get it stuck to his own fingers as he kissed my scrapes better.

I always had Dad to pick up the broken glass around me. He would always be there to pick me up and boost me along my way, always watching close to make sure I didn’t fall harder the next time.

That’s what dads are for.

I’ve always known what it was like to be loved unconditionally.
I’ve always known what it was like to be someone’s #1 girl.
I’ve always known the soft hugs of a protective papa bear.
I’ve always known the loving judgement and watchful eye of the man that loved me first.

That’s what dads are for.

A rose
Is a rose
Is a rose
Unless it looks like love,
Then it’s love
It is what it is, whatever it is

i have begged the earth
to orbit faster so that our days may
be shorter and i can finally have
you in my
arms again.
for my love, who is yet to know that my heart belongs to him.

I went out to find
Some value in me,
So I sold what I had
For little a fee.

My eyes for a penny
I sold to some fools,
They're blind and useless,
Mistook for jewels.

My lips for a nickel
To the sweetest sin,
So they'll know the love
That has never been.

My ears for a dime
I sold to a lover.
To hear sweet nothings,
And silence uncover.

My hands for a quarter
I sold to a ghost,
So that she might feel
What I've wanted the most.

Finally my bones for a dollar
I sold to the earth,
But as for my soul-
There was found no worth.

at 4 in the
morning the sun
is never up
but i usually am

i worry
about things
that are out of
my control
even more about
things that are

get up early
when i work
and earlier
when i don’t
the older i get the
more i learn
sometimes you
need to cry it out

alone
at night
into your pillow
the blankets
wrapped all
around you

sometimes you
need to cry
and cry
and cry

until the morning
sun falls across
the tears dried
under your lashes

and the lump
in your throat has
dissolved so you can
breathe with ease

you need to get up
let hot water
wash it away
let the steam rising
from your mug soften
any sorrow left around
your morning eyes
take a deep breath
don’t mention it
to anyone

and
just
keep
going

i will
just
keep
going
