I have oceans to spill
Of emotions I feel,
Of thoughts to share
And no basin to fill.

I filled the lagoon or two,
Bearing graceful names,
Now I'm sentenced to ink
And paper's word games.
A vacancy of support,
Sweetness submerged,
A saving grace
In the tug of a door--
Melodies over currents,
An angel on her back,
Meeting her Lord.
In honor of Malaya Hammond.
She was truly a beautiful soul.
Steeped in the floodgates of Heaven,
Droplets of joy, of forgotten memories,
Rain down, drenching, all-consuming—
Head tipped back, arms outstretched,
Surrounded by the crash of heartache.
Perfection mingling with humanity, tears
Beating pleas of grace and compassion
Into the stained minds on the sidewalk.
My old empty shell
I'm in search of a new one,
a new kind of hell.
I think of you
And what you may be going through
I think of you
And send my love
Though  I am not one of His followers
I am asking your God for help from above
It’s gotta be an extra special prayer
If I take myself to go there
Praying to your God
Do I even dare?
Yes, I do
Because I care about you
And I’d do anything
To help you get through
So I say “Dear God,”
And I say “Amen,” too
The rain masks your tears
They form deep lines on your face
Your face like a map.
I am closed off
On the inside and outside
No road signs warning
Don't you worry
Go back to sleep
You'll always know
Where I will be
In you're dreams
While you're fast asleep
You're never alone
Go back to sleep
Dreamland
On a sailboat
On Lake Superior
This shimmering body of water and I
are separated only
by a thin layer of sunblock,
a pair of shades

On a sailboat
On Lake Superior
Moments move as slowly
as the low breeze nudging the sail
I know not the year
or state I’m in out here
I know only
that I am the water
and the water is me

To Do Lists of life on land
cannot find me
sheltered here
by waves
Cradled here by currents
older than any human care
I am free as I float
Agendas, ambitions, anxieties—all inferior
On this sailboat
On sacred Lake Superior
